Toward an attractive and “OMOSHIROI” university!

The University of Toyama is located in Toyama City and Takaoka City in Toyama Prefecture, which is located on the West coast, in the center of Japan. Toyama Prefecture is a local district with changes of the seasons where the Tateyama mountain range, which is one of the most beautiful mountain in Japan, is in the south and Toyama Bay, on the Sea of Japan, to the north. And the university houses 9 undergraduate schools, 9 graduate schools and 12 research and educational institutes.

The “School of Sustainable Design” was newly established in April 2018, adding a new field with a focus on creating the future society and cities through a perspective of design thinking. Also, we established "Graduate school of Sustainable Studies" in 2022. The Graduate School of Sustainability Studies trains human resources who teach and research interdisciplinary theories and applications of science, engineering, and social sciences necessary for building a sustainable society, study them in depth, cultivate deep academic knowledge, outstanding abilities, and sense of ethics to take on jobs that require a high level of expertise, and contribute to building a sustainable society.

We are proud to be one of the leading universities in Japan with our greatest strength being the large number of capable individuals we have. There are approximately 9,300 students including 300 international students studying at the university. When you come to Toyama, in addition to studying, you can enjoy seasonal activities such as climbing Tateyama mountain range, swimming in the sea, and skiing.
