Founded in 1897, Kyoto University has been known as the top leading research university in Japan with the highest number of Nobel Prize recipients among Asian universities.

The university’s policy “academic freedom” value students’ independence and interactive learning to pursue their interests and to stay open-minded to all kinds of ideas in their studies. Under this policy, many outstanding researchers and students in diverse discipline from all over the world work together in Kyoto University.

We offer a wide range of study areas under 10 undergraduate and 18 graduate schools. Although Japanese is used as the basic language in most programs, there are also programs for international students which doesn’t require Japanese proficiency for admission (the details of the programs are to the bottom-half of this page).
