Keio University, one of Japan’s most prestigious universities, was founded in the center of Tokyo and has a rich history of academic excellence, becoming the country’s first private institution of higher learning in 1858. Its founder, Yukichi Fukuzawa, believed it was vital to modernize Japan’s education to produce future leaders.

With 6 major campuses, 10 undergraduate faculties, 14 graduate schools, over 33,500 students, Keio University is famed for its humanities and social sciences research, and for its hospital that provides advanced medical care. Keio students have found success in every field, with multiple prime ministers, and countless leading scientists, athletes, musicians, doctors, and others calling themselves Keio alumni. Keio has over 400,000 graduates and its alumni network is one of the university’s most valuable assets.

In 2023, Keio University welcomed a flourishing community of nearly 2,100 international students from more than 85 countries. It offers over 21 programs and 970 courses in English, as well as excellent Japanese education for all levels of proficiency. Keio ranked 214th in the QS World University Rankings 2024, placing it in the top 15% of the total 1,500 evaluated institutions.

In the individual categories of the rankings, Keio placed 42nd for Employer Reputation, 50th for Employment Outcomes, and 156th for Academic Reputation. This ranking puts Keio in the top 10 among Japanese universities.
